TIFF Nexus Arcade / Iteration Fund Application

Calling all TIFF Nexus jam participants!

Are you interested in taking your project to the next level of development AND have the opportunity to showcase it during the Toronto International Film Festival? TIFF Nexus is hosting a public Arcade for TIFF 2012 at Metro Hall from September 6 to 16 (exact dates to be confirmed), and we would like to include as many jam projects as possible. We have a small pool of funds available for participants to continue working on their projects.

In order to qualify for the funds, simply fill out the form below and include a description of how you plan to further develop the project that you created at one of the four TIFF Nexus jams (the Peripherals Initiative, the Difference Engine, the Youth New Media Literacy jam, or the Comics vs Games jam). Then decide if you wish to showcase your project at the TIFF Nexus Arcade. Alternatively, you can decide to simply submit your project to the TIFF Nexus Arcade in its current form.

Criteria for Projects in the Public Arcade:
TIFF Nexus will curate the Arcade and the project displays (games will likely have a similar setup to the one we had for Comics vs Games at TCAF). All projects are subject to the display restrictions of the City of Toronto. To participate in the TIFF Nexus Arcade, your projects should be:

  • Robust and stable enough to withstand continuous use/play over the course of a week. For those of you with more delicate projects (like those from Peripherals), we can look at other options such as Live Demonstrations for limited time periods;
  • PG rated – as children will have access to the games/projects
  • Functional/understandable even with low/no sound (another restriction of the City of Toronto). Videos may require captioning.
  • Ready for handover on Tuesday, Sept. 4th, 2012

Depending on the nature of your project, you may be asked to be available for fixes and/or maintenance for the duration of the Arcade.

Deadlines:
All submissions must be received before or by Tuesday, July 31st at 6:00 pm. A confirmation email will be sent to you upon receipt of your submission.

Upon receipt of all applications, we will notify everyone on the amount of funds available to them for their project (as this will vary depending on the number of applications received).

By accepting the funds, participants agree that the proposed work shall be completed within a year of the funding being provided followed by the submission of a one page report outlining how the funds were used and the status of their project.
